La question complexe.
The complex question to life, the universe and everything - which I have always been asked by those who have the courage to ask me, (or anyone for that matter is) without feeling foolish about it is ..
Why is it all so complex?
Since, there are so many who dont want to look foolish, I shall provide the answer, and free of cost!
Like all sages and saints of the past, I shall only show you the path which leads to enlightenment. It is for the follower to find the source of light.*
* Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any heart burns, body burns and exploding brains which may be caused in your sojourn, as it will be all be part of your discovery (should you not discover that).
The winner is .. Tom Hanks for Terminal (we could hear that in the Oscars this year ). But seriously,
La réponse à tout et à l'univers est ...
complexity in life = A + i * B; where,
A is the real part of life
B is the imaginary part of life
So,
1. Find the real and the imaginary in your life.
For example, the thought of looking/sounding foolish is imaginary. Even if you do sound foolish, it would be the imagination of the observer who would himself not be in the real plane.
2. Give waitage to each part according to the benifts it brings to your life, in making it pseudo complex.
You have three choices from here:
1. Eliminate part 'A' from your life and keep only 'B'. A gentleman called John Lennon, professed this in a very poetic way.
2. Eliminate part 'B' and keep only 'A'. This went well with many people who thought of seeing as believing and attributed the rest to God and made religion. But, unfortunately Mr. B took over lot of things in Mr. A's domain and it was dificult to tell one from another. (Mr. Rushide has something to say on it ... Magic Realism)
3. This is for a very small unfortunate %age of the population (the ones who truly suffer). They know the principle of optimization and try to find a ballance between A and B. Even more unfortunately, they know that optimization dosent work in many cases, so they spend a lot of time trying to optimize the theroy itself. The only hope they have is that all their theories are by nature self correcting. (You can tell these guys by the degrees they hold, like B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, MBA and so on.)

baba ... as usual, i agree on some of ur points n disagree on some others :-)
life is complex .. true .. but only when u r thinking about it, not living it. i mean, the complexity of life does not actually lie in the set of various acts & events of which life is composed, but the perception of those events by a human observer's complicated thinking.
it's ultimately the thinking/pondering/mulling over one's life (& i say one's life, coz such thinking/pondering is essentially self-introspective) that gives it the "quality" of being complex.
so, ur equation of life's mathematical decomposition into real and imaginary parts is actually a decomposition into happenings & perceptions.
therefore, life = H + i*P
where, H = H1+H2+... = sum total of happenings of real events
&
but, human perception is the only way

it's ultimately the thinking/pondering/mulling over one's life (& i say one's life, coz such thinking/pondering is essentially self-introspective) that gives it the "quality" of being complex.
so, ur equation of life's mathematical decomposition into real and imaginary parts is actually a decomposition into happenings & perceptions.
therefore, life = f'(H,P) ... (1)
where, H = H1+H2+... = sum total of happenings of real events
& P = P1+P2+... = sum total of individual's perceptions of corresponding events
but, human perception is the only way of knowing wot happened .. which means,
P=g(H)
so, life = f'(g(H),H) = f(H) ... (2)
where f is the mapping function by which reality is understood as an organisation of raw perceived data .. & that f is nothing but the interplay of one's intelligence (logical component) and biases (wotever their cause)
therefore,
f(H) = I(H) - i*B(H) ... (3)
because, the Bias component B() is imaginary (because it is not grounded in reality) and acts out of phase with Intelligence function I()
So, finally, using eqs: (1)-(3)
life = I(H) - i*B(H)
= I(H) - i*B(H)
Therefore, it is very clear from the above equation that I(H) or the intelligence function actually acts as an additive component of reality and balances the negative effect of biases. Since, biases are out of phase with intelligence, they cannot be cancelled by intelligence (as seen from the above eq.) .. but the optimization lies in decreasing the magnitude of B sufficiently low, so that the perception of reality aligns sufficiently towards the intelligence axis.
but what are biases ? .. biases are simple and easy to follow viewpoints towards life .. & just because they are easy to follow makes them so ubiquitous.
but intelligence can also arise in simplicity (which is otherwise termed as: common sense) & can also be complex (phlisophical thought).
hence, I(H) = CS(H,r,t) + PH(H)
& B(H) = CS(H0,r,t)
where, CS(H,r,t) = common sense function, which is also a function of time & position r & real events H
PH(H) = logical philosophy only changes with the events it explains, not a function of time
& CS(H0,r,t) = simplistic generalisations based on common sense of someone else .. highly random & change with position r & time t and depend on events H0 that do not constitute one's own life
so, finally, we arrive at:
life = CS(H,r,t) + PH(H) - i*CS(H0,r,t)
so, we see that the complexity in life (i.e. the imaginary component) is not even a function of the actual happenings of the individual's life, but just generalisations from some one else's that have become social norms or fashions, etc.
among the real components, CS is usually transferrable and thus forms the ideal meme for proliferation and becomes the imaginary (or procured) component in some one else's life .. who thinks too seriously about it.
while, PH is the least transferred part (because it's met with doubt, more often than not) .. forms the core of academic/intellectual debate .. whether it was by Galileo in the 16th or Einstein in the 20th century.
it can be further analysed mathematically .. but my point here is not to reduce life to an equation .. but to see the broad characteristics of life in mathematical light to ease its analysis.
I think anonymous's comment should be a blog by itself...
The theory of life has brought many philosophers to the forefront... As usual, baba, urs was an oversimplification....
